If you were to ask any grown adult, man or woman, what his or her biggest skin problem is (or was), you would most likely get a multitude of answers. On the other hand, if you were to ask the adolescent this very question, the answer would overwhelmingly state acne. The skin type of every individual is different, even if they do fall into a general category – oily, dry, combination or sensitive. Likewise, the issues faced by each individual with regards to his or her skin would be just as different.

Acne is a common skin problem that affects the multitude at one point or another in their lives – if not in youth, which is most common, then surely into the early years of adulthood. It can take the form of a pimples, whiteheads, or blackheads. So what causes acne? How come people with oily skin are most easily prone to acne infections that persons with other skin types? Acne is caused by anything which clogs the pores of the skin thereby preventing the natural oils or sebum of the skin glands to be released onto the skin surface.

When the skin’s pores become clogged and sebum has nowhere else to go, it ‘backs up’ until it forms a pimple, blackhead or whitehead. Excessive dirt and oil on the skin can cause excessive pore blockage, which often results in the more severe types of acne disorders. These are different to outbreaks which would simply occur once in a while – if your skin is too oily (due to imbalanced hormone production) then the incidence of acne would always be common.

The person with dry skin is more often prone to other types of skin problems if care is not taken to maintain the moisture balance of the especially dry skin. Dry skins usually lack the ability to produce the necessary oils whose function it is to keep the skin moisturized at all times. So as opposed to the person with oily skin who bears the effects of acne, the person with dry skin is often faced with skin problems which arise due to a complete lack of moisturization. Normally the dry skin would simply take on the texture of rough and dry or scaly skin. In severe conditions however, it would result in skin sensitization, the development of dermatitis or spot rashes, and even other symptoms which can easily be mistaken for skin disorders (such as eczema and psoriasis).

Dry skin requires a careful and thorough moisturizing regime at least twice daily. Not all people with dry skin however are naturally born with lower sebum-secreting glands than normal – most people in fact with dry skin problems develop these over time due to improper skin care. Over exposure to harsh conditions or a complete disregard for the importance of skin moisturization are the key issues which lead to the development of dry skins and the issues that go with dry skin.

By: David Yu

Oily hair is a result of excessive sebum production from the sebaceous glands attached to the hair follicle. This results in hair becoming dull, lank, lacking volume and attracting dirt more easily. It is a problem that most people deal with at some point, for different reasons. The best way to get rid of your oily hair is to pinpoint the cause of your problem and treat your hair accordingly. Oily hair is difficult to manage, can be limp, and hard to style. A common misconception about oily hair is that it is caused by an oily scalp.

Oily hair is heavy and will not cooperate with any styling product you try. If you try to use gel or mousse to fluff it up, it only looks greasier. Oily hair is prone to being flat, so if your hair lacks volume it is a sure bet that your hair is the oily type. Look for a mild, volumizing shampoo that is geared for oily hair. Oily hair is caused by the overproduction of sebum, which is a natural hair moisturizer. You need to control the amount of oil in your hair to avoid looking too greasy and shiny.

Oily hair is always healthier than dry hair though, and keeping hair oily to an extent will make your hair a lot healthier than if it was too dry. Hair Grease does hair real good and will keep your hair looking real healthy. Oily hair is a problem when it sticks to your head and fails to conform to whatever style you’re trying to achieve. There are millions of people who have problems with oily hair. Oily hair is also more prone to dandruff, so it is crucial to wash your hair daily to prevent dandruff. Apart from that avoid using harsh chemical products on your hair since they increase the chances of dandruff. It is also important to maintain a healthy diet, rich with zinc, carotene and Vitamin B to promote general healthy hair.

Oily hair is a consequence of oily skin and some factors may eventually lead to dry hair, namely inactive oil glands. Oily hair is caused by over secretion of oil and the scalp and hair gets too oily due to this condition. It is hair is caused by overactive sebaceous glands. These glands produce sebum in excess, causing oiliness of skin or hair.

Sebum is your body’s natural humectant and many of you who think that you are doing your body a favour by eating fat-free foods, are actually doing your body a disservice. Your body needs essential fatty acids (EFA’s) to function properly from skin and scalp moisturization to proper bowel movements, your body needs natural fats which you can get from olive oil, meat, nuts, and dairy products etc.

Sebum can also plug a hair follicle, forming a black head or white head. A bacterium that grows behind this plug is called a pimple.
Shampoos that specifically target oily hair can be easily obtained and they contain specific ingredients meant to help cleanse your hair of excess oil. Thoroughly massage your scalp and be sure to shampoo from root to tip before washing it out, ensuring that all the shampoo has been rinsed off properly. Shampoos and conditioners chosen for dry hair and scalp conditions need to be quite nutritive in nature to smoothen the hair and build its strength, while adding moisture.

Caring for your hair is important so it is wise to maintain some kind of routine with your hair care, and to find the hair products that are best suited to your hair and skin. If you have oily hair and are thinking about getting hair extensions fitted, then it is wise to try and resolve the problem first as the bonds that hold the human extensions in place will not hold and will likely fall out. An alternative to bonded hair extensions would be to use clip in extensions instead as they are attached using clips instead of keratin glue. These can be applied and removed in minutes, which means you can remove them which will enable you to use all your hair products as normal in order to rectify your oily hair.

By: Andy D Black

Many skin conditions, such as acne and oily skin, can be helped immensely by proper skin care. Taking proper care of your skin is the first step to living a life with radiant skin. Often, when you take care of the outside, your mind and heart are also affected, because you are more confident and self-assured.

First, if you have a skin disease, talk to your doctor about the best skin care regimen for the problem you are dealing with. This skin care is going to have specific steps for you to take that target the problem of your specific disease. The goal is to completely stop the disease and often requires prescription medication.

However, there are many steps you can take to eliminate problems on your own through prevention. If you have the proper skin care routine already in place, it might help to keep any problems from popping up. However, even the best skin care regimen will not prevent all skin diseases and having a disease on your skin does not mean you are dirty or have taken poor care of your skin, no matter what your grandmother told you!

The most common complaint about skin is acne. Most people think that acne is caused by poor cleanliness. This is not true. Acne is often genetic and caused by the oiliness of the skin that is natural. Hormones can also cause breakouts of acne. And, acne does not always occur on the face. It can occur on any area of the skin.

There are many things you can do to help control your acne, keeping it from becoming bad enough to create scarring and other problems. First, if the acne is on an area of your body besides your face, you should avoid wearing clothes that fit tightly to the skin. If your sweat stays on your body, it can aggravate acne. Allow your skin room to breath.

Another important aspect of skin care for acne is to avoid touching the nodules with your hands. If the acne is from an infection, your hands can spread the infection. Finally, do not squeeze your pimples. This causes scars and can also help acne to spread.

Another common skin problem is dry skin, particularly in the winter. The winter is savage on your skin, because the air inside and outside is dry. Proper skin care for dry skin includes plenty of moisturizers! Place hydrating lotion on every area of your body, particularly after taking a shower, because your skin is ready to absorb the moisture at this time.

Another common skin complaint is brown spots. These occur on areas of your body that are exposed for long periods of time to the UV rays from the sun and appear as darkened spots on the skin. This is particularly noticeable on the hands and arms, particularly in women. The best preventative skin care for brown spots is always wearing sunscreen when outdoors, no matter if it is warm and sunny or not. Many forget to wear sunscreen in the winter, but if skin is exposed, you still need it, because the sun is still out! You can also avoid the damage from the sun through wearing clothes that cover your skin.

By: Michael Russell

Be it white or black skin, skin care products require as components the following – Cynergy TK, Phytessence Wakame and Coenzyme Q10. All these components help in building your skin cells by providing all the necessary vitamins and minerals and hence they need to be present in skin care products if you plan to use them because, when the collagen content in your skin starts depleting your skin will develop wrinkles, sagging, etc which are signs of aging. If you want your skin to look healthy and attractive using such components is very essential.

Separate lines of treatment for black and white skin are advertised in the market regarding various products. You should not be fooled by the likes of this. You need to understand certain basic issues regarding this. The basic Skin types are sensitive skin, dry skin, oily skin and skins with disorders. The color of the skin is not the issue at all in treating skin disorders. Whether black or white your skin is skin. All these products need not treat the diseases with different treatments for different colors of skin. You will find that the basic ingredients in these products designed for different colors of skin are all the same if you compare them. From this it is conclusive that skin color does not affect the treatment given to the skin.

If you take the right steps in examining what each of these components will do, you will be able to decide on the product that is most suitable for your skin type and that will guarantee you the best results. If you want to choose black skin care products make sure that you choose ones that contain all the above mentioned ingredients and see that it suits your skin type more than the color. You need to be cautious in exerting your choices as a wrong choice will affect your skin badly.

By: Jean Helmet

Let me tell you a quick story about skin care for men. Years ago I was a reporter on a city newspaper and one day my chief reporter came to my desk with a big grin. My assignment for the afternoon was to go to a beauty salon where a brand new product was being promoted — makeup for men.

So next day the paper carried my short report with a large photo of me in the hairdresser’s chair with male lipstick and color greatly improving my otherwise ordinary looks. It caused a ripple of laughs and jokes around the newsroom (the office homosexual didn’t see the joke — he awkwardly asked me if he could have the lipstick tube). But the male make up was not a commercial success. Men skin care and makeup were just not sitting comfortably together then.

But that was some years ago. Today the attitude to men putting “things” on their face and taking care of their appearance is no longer a joke. In fact, skin care for men is a booming industry.

Part of the reason is probably the switch men are making in health awareness. We are seeing our doctors more readily. We are hearing more about men’s ailments. We are putting on sunscreen and protecting our hearing much more than we did a few decades ago. Skin care for men becomes a logical focus and point of concern.

Another reason why skin care for men at least, is now more visible might be a growing interest in how men look. There was a time when a rugged, outdoors’ look was normal. It was what we aspired to. Not so now. More and more we want to have soft, smooth skin and a face with few wrinkles and bags. So skin care products for men have a market.

Two suggestions to help you care for your skin.

Throw away the bar of cheap scented soap you get from the supermarket. It is harsh, its full of chemicals (those artificial soap fragrances are full of chemicals!) and it does not take into account your type of skin.

Instead get a decent cleanser. No fragrance and no detergent. The best one for an oily skin will be one that foams, as they remove a lot of oil. Dry skin? Then a creamy cleanser will moisturize and leave oils in place. Use a good cleanser at the beginning and end of each day.

And remove the dead skin cells on the surface of your skin with a brisk exfoliation at least once a week. Do this and you’ll also be lowering your chance of getting ingrown hairs and razor burn while shaving. And you’ll clear the way for whatever skin care products you use to take effect on the surface of your skin.

So, go ahead, and take advantage of the new-found freedom to use products that give skin care for men. You’ll feel fresher and cleaner than you did using soap and water, with some after shave splashed on in the morning. And your skin will look softer, healthier and younger. You’ll find suggestions on skin care for men on my web site, so you might want to click there now and do some more reading.

By: William Leonard

Sensitive skin requires facial skin care that caters to that sensitivity. The facial care that many products offer is simply too harsh for the special needs of sensitive skin. This makes it important to choose the right products as well as to treat the skin right day and night.

When looking for a moisturizer, wrinkle cream or a cream for your oily skin, also keep in mind its sensitive nature. That doesn’t mean buying one just because it says “Sensitive Skin” on the label. That usually means that the active ingredients have been diluted or that they’ve added aloe to the mix. What sensitive skin really needs is to have a product that uses ingredients that are so pure and natural that they work well with any skin type.

There are products that use gentle natural ingredients that are affective against skin problems without being too harsh for sensitive skin. This is accomplished by using active ingredients that repair the skin rather than only providing it with moisture.

The proper facial skin care also depends on how the products are applied. There are a number of ways to apply skin creams, gels and masks. Unfortunately, most of them are wrong for sensitive skin. The rough sponges, loofahs and washcloths that are often used are too rough for use with sensitive skin.

A soft cloth that is made for sensitive skin or a soft shower gel pouf are much better ways to apply facial care products. But perhaps an easier way is to simply use the fingertips to work the products gently into the skin. The product should be rubbed into the skin gently to avoid damaging the skin and causing redness and an uneven tone.

Sensitive skin should also be kept away from the elements whenever possible. Sunlight, wind and cold can all aggravate skin of any type, but sensitive skin responds particularly poorly. Finding shade and positioning yourself to face away from the wind will keep the skin from becoming irritated.

The kind of facial skin care that is best for sensitive skin requires the right products and the right handling of the skin. The way the skin is touched by the hands and by the elements can have a big effect on the way it looks and feels. Facial care that is done correctly can soothe sensitive skin and make it feel better and look smooth and radiant.

By: Maricha Jordan

Skin is the human body’s first line of defense, it is the largest single organ in the entire human body. It protects all the important organs inside our body from harmful and abrasive stuffs outside. Therefore, the skin deserves to be taken care of.

When it comes to skin care, there are differences among women, men and children. Even among women, skin care differs at various stages of women’s lives.

There are many things that contribute to the well-being of a woman’s skin. Nutrition and lifestyle can reflect a woman’s appearance on the outside. Good nutrition and healthy lifestyle will produce healthy skin. A good and healthy looking skin on the outside is generally an indication of a woman’s overall well-being.

On the contrary, poor nutrition and unhealthy lifestyle will generally reflect an overall poor health of a woman’s skin. Bad habits such as smoking, excessive alcohol drinking, consuming of high-fat diets, etc. will also deprive the skin of important nutrients it needs.

In general, women don’t shave their mustache, faces and chins. However, they do shave other parts of their bodies such as legs and armpits, including the sensitive parts. If you have a sensitive skin, extra care should be taken to avoid razor rash, burn or other skin irritation.

For both women and men, healthy lifestyle (good nutrition, regular exercise and rest well) lay the foundation for beautiful and healthy skin. Good nutrition will ensure that your skin receive all the nutrients and vitamins that it needs to maintain and repair itself.

Drinking plenty of water is also important to keep your skin healthy. Water helps to hydrate the skin, transport nutrients through and flush toxins out of your body.

Skin care during pregnancy

Hormonal surge during pregnancy and menopause can cause changes in a woman’s skin; pregnancy can also turn normal skin into oily skin. So, you may have to change your skin care products. Use mild cleanser to wash your face daily, also use exfoliator to clean pores deeply and remove dead skin cells (use exfoliator once or twice a week is sufficient). Continue to moisturize skin, especially around your growing tummy, to reduce chances of developing stretch marks.

Check all your existing skin care products to ensure that they are safe to use during pregnancy. Should you have any concerns, seek advice from your physician and only purchase products which are labeled safe to use during pregnancy.

Use foot lotion to massage your feet every night before going to bed (get your loving husband to do this for you). When going outside the house, don’t forget to use sunscreen to protect your skin from damaging UV rays.

By: Mei Susanti

Teenagers often have skin problems, thanks to the raging hormones that cause some pretty drastic changes in their bodies, including the skin. With acne and oily skin being the most common skin issues faced by teenagers, there are a ton of products out there designed specifically for teen skin care. It`s always handy to offset some of the problems ahead of time, though, so here are a few tips to get you started:

Choosing Skin Care Products

- Look for organic, natural ingredients that won’t irritate already sensitive skin. Most teens have sensitive skin for at least a while and harsh chemicals can actually aggravate conditions like acne.
- Skin care products that are designed for teen skin will probably work best, so look for these rather than products that are meant for adult skin, which tends to be more stable.
- Avoid using only products with astringent properties. Despite the appearance of your skin, it needs moisturizing, too. The best moisturizers are ones that have a non-oily base.
- Find skin care products that offer soothing herbs in combination with other active ingredients. Lavender, aloe and chamomile are just a few of the natural ingredients available that can soothe irritated, sensitive skin.

Daily Skin Care Tips

- Washing your face is a good way to eliminate bacteria that can cause infections and worsen acne. However, don`t wash too often and avoid scrubbing, since this can cause excess oil to be secreted by the skin and will tend to irritate it, as well, causing more problems. A good foaming cleanser is a good way to go and can be rinsed gently afterwards.
- Try not to rest your chin on your hand and keep fingers away from the face, since this can transfer excess oil and bacteria and cause zits. When you do need to touch your face, wash your hands first.
- For very oily skin, blotting papers can be useful. To avoid excessive face washing, just blot away the extra oil. If you don`t have blotting papers, tissues work well, too.
- Avoid popping zits. This spreads bacteria and though it can be very tempting to get rid of an obvious blemish this way, you`ll be better off in the long run if you use a topical treatment instead of popping it.
- If you wear makeup, never leave it on overnight. It`s important to let the skin breathe and this means washing the makeup off at night. Using a lighter application or makeup that is specially formulated for sensitive skin should help, too.
- Long hair also plays an important part in skin care. If your hair hangs in your face, it can transfer even more oil to the skin and tends to cause breakouts wherever it usually hangs. This is often the cause of “backne”, hair hanging down the back, even over a tee shirt, can wick a lot of grease into the skin. Tie long hair back and keep it nice and clean to avoid problems.

Not all teens will have skin problems, but it’s a good idea to start early with the right skin care to ensure that if you have acne prone skin [http://www.saffronrouge.com/jurlique/face-moisturizers/jurlique-blemish-cream_2] problems, they will be minimized. It`s also helpful to know what you can do once pimples and zits start to appear. Using a good quality skin care product that uses natural, organic ingredients will help a lot. It’s tough being a teen, but you can ease the transition by taking good care of your skin so it doesn’t have the chance to get out of control.

By: Amy Nutt

Basically there are five types of skin, namely, normal, dry, oily, combination and sensitive.

Normal skin:

People with normal skin have soft and smooth texture. Normal skin have balanced amount of water and lipids. If a person has a normal skin, he/she has a very good skin. Normal skin also requires cleaning, nourishing and moisturizing. Every day in the morning, clean your face with rose water or astringent tonic. You can moisturize your skin with non greasy cream which is made up of organic or natural ingredients without petroleum by-products. After a hard day’s work when you reach home your skin may turn out to be filthy due to which you get black heads. In order to avoid that wash your face with a mild soap and apply an oil-based nourishing cream on your face. Gently massage your eyes with the cream, after 15 minutes pat your skin with a napkin. To keep your skin in good condition do follow certain steps- drink plenty of water, eat organic food, wear a sunscreen lotion to protect your skin from sun.

Dry skin:

During winter, dry skin faces lot of problems because it is very sensitive. Do not use commercial creams and lotions. Creams that have natural hypoallergenic ingredients are considered best for dry skin. After taking bath in the morning, apply virgin coconut oil, cocoa butter or shea butter all over your body. These contain some natural ingredients like essential oils, vitamin A, C, D and E and protein. Do not wash your face with tap water. Clean your face with mineral water, ice, toner, cosmetic milk. When you take a shower just spend three minutes a day in water. Use only mildest soap. Do not scrub your face. But use only a mild oatmeal soap, which will avoid irritation to your skin. If your skin has itchy spots, do not scratch over that. Apply coconut oil on the itchy spots.

Oily skin:

In oily skin you should try to remove excessive oil. Use mild soap only once in a day but wash your face 2-3 times a day. Always use non greasy moisturizers. Apply clay, papaya or yogurt on your face as it is the best mask for oily skin. Apply this for 20 minutes in a week and wash your face with cool water.

Combination skin: It is a combination of both oily and dry skin. Certain areas of your face are oily and certain dry. Mostly forehead and nose have more excessive oil and other areas like eyes and cheeks are dry. So the areas that are oily use oil skin tips and areas with dry skin use dry skin care tips.

Sensitive skin: This skin type is always very dry and irritated. Do consume a large amount of fatty acids, organic protein, yogurt and lacto-fermented fruits and vegetables. If a woman is vegetarian, they would develop very dry, wrinkled and irritated skin. Follow dry skin tips for sensitive skin.
