When you’re a teenage girl, you always focus on how you look. You have to have the right outfit, the right hairstyle, the right complexion…basically, the right everything. Something that has seemed to elude the teenage girl for eons now is the fact that no one is perfect. However, teenage girls certainly get an A for effort!

Aside from hair and wardrobe, the thing that girls spend the most time on is skin care. If you were ever a teenage girl (which would be especially interesting if you’re a man reading this) no doubt you spent at least some of your time trying to get rid of your acne with the right skin care regimen.

Walk into any supermarket or drugstore, and you’ll find an entire aisle dedicated to skin care. There are lotions, face masques, and creams all over the place. The only problem is trying to figure out which one actually works, because some of them are just generic brands that don’t do much more than make your skin smell pretty.

If you happen to have horrendous acne, you want to look for something that has salicylic acid in it. Yes, it sounds scary, but that’s the stuff that does wonders for skin care. Those zits you have are caused by bacteria in your epidermal layers. The salicylic acid kills that bacteria, effectively drying out the zit. Variation in seasons makes it necessary that we alter our skin treatment and use of creams and lotions should be changed to match weather. Therefore, we should first know any harm that carelessness could cause if skin care is neglected.

Just the way during winter out we have to fight against dryness, similarly in summer too, our skin will require moisturizing, though not like the winter but in a different way. You can moisturize your skin not just externally, moisturizing can also be done through bringing out changes in diet.

Winter time diet consists of lot of fat because body requires the fat to fight winter, on the other hand during summer; diet should be very less fat, lot of water and fiber. In fact reduction in amount of meat consumption would bring a lot of coolness to your body. You also need cutting down on hard drinks, instead you can switch to something natural and cooling, and correctly fruits for the season like the watermelon, oranges, etc.

During lunch and dinner, if you wish to keep your body cool, you can try out salads and yogurt, which will provide your body with much needed coolness and also help it withstand the summer heat.

Your skin will very much show what’s on your diet. The more you consume fresh fruits and salads, the cleaner and radiant skin will become. Consumption of water too should be more than you were consuming during the winter, ideally it is around 8 glasses of 200ml each day. So keep a count of how much you consume each day.

Bathing is very necessary at least twice each day during summer, your skin with benefit from the coolness of water soothing the sweat glands, you will also be able to wash the grime off during summer. Make sure you do not take a bath immediately after you came indoors from being under sun for long. Your skin will benefit if you wait for sometime before entering the shower, taking a bath immediately after coming from direct sun tends to dry skin, rather than do it any good, a 10 minute wait would be beneficial.

Since you are taking a bath more than once during the day, it is necessary that you use a soft but effective soap, which is enhanced with moisturizers and skin nourishing elements. Natural skin care demands that you do not use anything that is purely chemical, today research and development has made it possible that you use products with natural ingredients that benefit your skin.

Skin care is essential during all seasons, however you need changing products with season, the cold cream you were using for your skin during winter to avoid drying up of skin would no longer be effective during summer.

Why are skin care products so confusing? Why is there so little brand loyalty? Part of the problem is that the last 20 years have brought a tsunami of new skin care products, new ads, new claims. The splashy advertising, the celebrities and the offers combine to produce instant hype. Every new product promises a new “advance” or “technology” or “significant improvement”. Because this revolution is so new, everyone–retailers, consumers, dermatologists, editors–are struggling to figure it out.

Some cosmetics companies like it that way. They invent funny names for molecules. They retouch the living daylights out of those unretouched ads. They cleverly (yet legally) manipulate the copy.
