When it comes to skin care, it is never too soon to start. You should start taking care of your skin as early as possible so that you can avoid wrinkles as you age. Even if you are older and wrinkles have already started to rear their heads on your face, you can get modern skin care products that will reduce the signs of aging and will make your skin look years younger.

When you are looking for skin care products, you have to take the type of skin that you have into consideration. This means that you should focus on your skin type and choose skin care that is made to take care of your skin. If you have oily skin, then choose products that are made for this type. It’s the same with dry or combination skin. It is very important, when it comes to skin care, to use the right products that are made for your skin type. Since everyone has different skin types, the same skin care products are not the proper treatment for everyone.

In addition, you need to consider that different parts of your face need special care. This is especially true when it comes to the area around your eyes. You need to take care to use serums that will treat this very thin area of skin that is more prone to wrinkles than other areas. You should choose skin care that not only focuses on the face, but the entire face and areas that can be more prone to problems.

Look for skin care products that focus on cleansing as well. Without proper cleansing, you are not doing much good for your facial skin. When you look for products for skin care, choose those that encompass both cleansing to protecting. Just putting cream on your face is not enough. You have to make sure that all of your pores have been properly cleaned out from a good cleansing treatment. If you are using soap on your face, you are making a mistake. This will dry out your skin and will also cause you to develop wrinkles earlier.

If you have some signs of aging, you can reduce them by using skin care that is made to reduce the signs of aging. There has been quite a bit of development in this field in recent years. You can make yourself look many years younger simply by choosing the right skin care products and using them.

Of course, it stands to reason that you have to use the skin care products regularly in order for them to work. By choosing a good skin care regimen and practicing it daily, you will be helping to keep your skin smooth and supple as well as wrinkle free. You can find skin care solutions that consist of cleansers as well as anti wrinkle serums by shopping online. These skin care products also focus on different types of skin so that you can get the right products that are made especially for you.

Skin is a very important and visible part of our body. It’s a kind of protective coating on our entire body parts.

As we care and look after our all organs, our skin requires a little more care as it’s directly in contact with the outer environment as dirt, dust and sun. Harmful chemicals, which our polluted air contains, and bad water too are a cause in damaging skin before time.

So one has to care about one’s skin well and should make a daily routine to pamper one’s skin to protect it from early aging and harmful skin disease.

Skin is affected by both the factors external and internal. External are direct contact with harmful UV RAYS, dirt and dust and internal is due to wrong food habits.

Your body is what you eat though it’s a lot determined by genes and one can have a bad skin due to hormonal imbalance in a particular age but eating all wrong food as all oily and spicy food can damage your skin. Which cannot be regained by external care only.

For a good easy skin care here are a few tips:

· First thing should be keeping your skin clean. Rather than using soaps on the face, its better to use mild face wash according to use skin type as oily for oily skin, dry for dry and combination for the combination one. One can use our home remedies for a beautiful, healthy and glowing skin. One can use rose water, lemon juice, and fruit juices to clean and wipe the skin with. It will give a refreshing look to one’s skin. If the skin is dry than one can use a pinch of milk cream and a drop of lemon juice on it, mixed and rubbed on the skin and then washed. Which is very good to clean the skin.

· Then is drinking lots of fluids. To have a good, healthy skin one should drink lots of water which is said to be at least 8-10 glasses of water in a day and some skin and health specialist say that it should be in proportion to your weight as for every 10 kg of weight, one should drink a liter of water so if the weight is 60 then the person should drink 6 liters of water. Which can be substituted with fruit juices too.

· Always apply sunscreen lotion on the skin. One should never go in the sun without applying a sunscreen lotion, which protects the skin from harmful UV rays. Which are known to give even skin cancer. It damages the skin and makes it tan, give blemishes, burn mask and pigmentation, which can never get healed 100%. So it’s better to apply the right sunscreen lotion on the skin to save the skin from early aging.

· One should avoid all unhealthy food if the skin is already suffering from bad patches or pimples. Even caffine drinks are harmful for the skin. Too much consumption of tea, coffee, saturated drinks damage the skin. Smoking too is a very important factor to harm the skin. It makes the skin dry, makes it look dull and gives puffiness on the face. Drinking alcohol too isn’t good for the skin. So if one can’t stops consuming all these things completely, one can at least have them in moderation to help the skin stay young and healthy.

· Where one don’t get proper time to care the skin as full time working people, never mind, they can care their skin in a very well way by a little effort from there side. Working people should keep moist tissues in their bags and purses to wipe their face to remove dirt and sweat when they cannot wash their face again and again. Should apply sunscreen when outside home and nice mild moisturizer on the skin while doing anything else. Even in the night before going to bed one should wash the face, keep it clean, remove any make up if had put on the face and then should apply a good moisturizes according to the skin type.

· One can judge the skin type in the morning. As in the morning without washing the face one should wipe the face with a tissue paper, if there is lots of oil on the nose sides and chin then the skin is t-zone, if there is oil all over the face then the skin is oily, if its somewhere dry and somewhere oily then it’s combination skin, and if there is no oil n stickiness on the skin, the skin is dry and you are lucky if the skin is just perfect neither there is oil nor dryness.

· If the skin is prone to pimples and acne, one should give it a little more care. Should clean the skin more often, should apply medicated soaps and lotions. One should check it up with a skin specialist too as dandruff in the hair and scalp or some hormonal changes too can be a cause of a bad skin. One should never pinch or squeeze the pimples or acne or should not try to remove black head on their own as it will ruin the skin more and will give it permanent scars.

· One should avoid too much make up on the skin as if you care about your skin and keep it healthy and clean, you would definitely not require make up to make it look good. But if anytime you had applied make up on the skin, you should clean it as soon as you come back home. Let the skin breathe without any make up on it. One can use baby oil, baby lotion or mild cleansing milk on the skin to remove the traces of make up.

So one can get a glowing, healthy skin by giving it a little care and can keep the skin away from black heads, pimples, blemishes and pigmentation.

Skin: – Ayurveda describes the skin as one among the “PANCHANHANENDRIYAS”. We feel with our skin. The skin is the most exposed part of our body and is hence the most affected area of our body. It is more prone to diseases since the dirt, grime, polluted air and exhaust from the vehicles all gets accumulated here. Hence skin is to be given proper care.

The things that affect the skin: -

Changes in weather: – Often we have to go out. The summer takes the toll on the exposed part of the skin and heat tends to darken the skin. Tan is often good. But overexposure to sun can cause even small-scale burns and blackening. Hence the part that is more often exposed to sun becomes dark whereas that part of the skin, which remains under the dress, retains the original color. People often complain about this change in color especially on the face. Lot of sunscreen lotions is available in the market and is prescribed for this problem. Winter poses another problem- dryness of the skin. The skin becomes dry during the winter season, which often leads to the ageing. The skin looks old due to the dryness. Companies manufacture and market lot of lotions specially made for this purpose.

Atmospheric pollution: – Since we are living in an era of pollution, many diseases which were not heard of earlier are very common nowadays. As mentioned in the introduction, the exhaust fumes coming out from the vehicles and dirt and grime affect the skin. The skin loses its glow after some time. It is a very difficult task to preserve the glow and texture of the skin.

Ailments: – Various skin ailments are on the rise these days. Of these the most common ones are Luekoderma and Psoriasis. Both were very rare earlier but are quite common now days. In Luekoderma , the body is not able to produce a pigment called “MELANIN” which gives the skin its characteristic colour and thus certain parts shows white patches which is prominently seen. It looks like disfigurement in some cases especially when it is seen in the face. This has become common irrespective of the climatic conditions or the places we live in. Equally seen is Psoriasis. The number of patients suffering from these diseases is on the high. People suffering from psoriasis often develop allergy like itching and blemishes on the skin. These are often seen as small spots, which gradually spread to other parts of the body. Treatment would be more effective if started in the initial stages. These have no effective cure in Modern Medicine other than intake of steroids. Ayurveda relates these to the vitiation of humors like “VATA” , “PITTA” and “KAPHA”. Treatments such as “VAMANA” or emesis, “VIRECHANA” or purgation are recommended. These treatments help in detoxifying the body.

The changes in lifestyle: – The changes in the lifestyle and the use of chemicals affect the skin a lot. Extensive use of soaps, shampoos and the like causes dryness. The skin of some people is extremely sensitive and bleaching and other beauty therapies cause blemishes on the skin. We do not have the time to take care of the skin these days and hence the skin looks old very easily due to the lack of proper care. Extensive use of makeups results in premature ageing. Our grandmothers knew how to take good care of the skin with oils and other natural herbs

Food: – Use of fried food is on the increase now days. People have no time for a regular meal and they often end up eating junk food from the roadside. Often children take these fries, which comes in packet for their snacks to school daily. The use of these may cause eruptions on the skin. To have a good skin one must include a lot of leafy vegetables, fruits etc in their menu.

Tension: – Stress and tension has become a part of our modern day life. Hypertension is the most common disease. This leads to numerous ailments, which can also affect the skin.

Remedies:

Ayurveda recommends “ABHYANGA” or oil bath. Oil bath is the most effective medicine. It acts as a tonic for the skin. Massaging the body with oil and then washing it off with herbs like gram flour, besan, rita, amla etc can work wonders on the skin. This will help to have a glowing skin and also acts as a precaution for skin ailments. From childhood itself it is recommended to use oil on the baby and have a herbal wash. Including leafy vegetables is essential for good skin. Drink lot of water and wash the face with water as many times as possible. Fruits like pappaya, cucumber etc can be pulped and applied to get a glowing skin. Honey prevents ageing of the skin and it also helps in easy healing of wounds. Turmeric is an antiseptic and also enhances skin colour. Henna leaves pasted with a little turmeric and betel leaves were used for applying mehendi on the hands and feet before. Apart from beautifying purpose, this also was good for the skin. This paste when applied on the feet helped to control fungus infection during rainy seasons.

There are numerous remedies mentioned in Ayurveda for skin care but above all, a healthy mind is necessary for a healthy skin.

I would like to share with you some honey and skin care knowledge, one of the most popular topics amongst the female honey fans, before you spend hundreds or thousands of dollars on all those anti-wrinkle and moisturising creams. Try some easy, home-made tonic and remedy with honey first. And remember, the main ingredient in all those costly skin care products in the store could be honey!

Really, there is no simpler way to bring a smooth glow to your skin than with honey beauty recipes. Honey’s ability to absorb and retain moisture make it an ideal ingredient in a lot of cosmetics as it helps keep skin hydrated and fresh and prevents drying. It is known that ancient beauties regularly applied a mixture of honey and milk to the face to keep the skin young-looking, radiant, and smooth.

Honey’s natural antioxidant and anti-microbial properties help to protect the skin from the damage of the sun’s rays, supports the skin’s ability to rejuvenate and refresh depleted skin, leaving it feeling silky soft and supple. One of the most common skin benefits of honey is related to minor acne treatment. Honey absorbs impurities from the pores on the skin, making it an ideal cleansing agent. With the wide-ranging of honey and skin care recipes, it is no wonder that there exists a huge number of honey products in the market for hair care, baby care, skin care for sunscreen, hand lotions, facial scrubs and moisturizers. And for instance, the Manuka Honey Lip Balm is an effective and natural moisturiser. It contains sun protection properties to soothe and protect the lips from becoming dry and chapped in cold and dry weather.

6 Pampering Homemade Honey Recipes for Skin Care:

Here are some do-it-yourself, self-help, extremely easy to follow recipes to enjoy the benefits of honey in skin care. I recommend them also because all the ingredients that go along with them are so easily accessible.

1. Cucumber-Honey Toner:

Puree 1 cucumber in a blender and drain away the liquid. Add 2 teaspoons of honey and mix. Apply on the face and neck area with a cotton pad. Air dry it and rinse clean.

2. Honey-Apple Toner:

In a blender or food processor, combine 1 peeled, cored apple with a tablespoon of honey and pulse until smooth. Apply mixture to face and allow it to stay for 15 minutes, then rinse.

3. Honey-Oats Face Scrub:

Combine 1 tablespoon honey, 1 tablespoon finely-ground almonds, 2 tablespoons dry oatmeal, and some lemon juice or yogurt to a luxurious and exfoliating facial scrub. Massage mixture gently onto face, then rinse with warm water.

4. Gentle Honey Cleanser:

Mix 1⁄4 cup honey, 1 tablespoon liquid soap and 1⁄2 cup glycerin (found in drug stores). Apply gently on to face using a face sponge. Rinse with warm water and pat face dry.

5. Hot Honey Bath:

Perhaps the easiest beauty recipe related to honey and skin care — Add 1/4 cup of honey to your hot bath water for silky and luscious skin.

6. Honey Hair Conditioning Treatment:

For lustrous, silky, healthy hair and scalp, simply combine 1/2 cup honey and 2 tablespoons to 1/4 cup olive oil. Massage scalp with this conditioner, then put on a shower cap for 30 minutes. Shampoo and rinse as usual.

By: Ruth Tan
